Chairpersons Report
After 4 challenging seasons with severe drought and extreme temperatures followed by floods, Covid and then a problematic PlayHQ implementation by Cricket Australia, 2023/24 has been a ‘normal’ season where we can focus on cricket.
While the last 4 years has been very difficult for our Volunteers it has also given us resilience and provided the opportunity to focus on the things that matter: building on the established relationships with our Schools; strengthening our relationship with the Sports Club; developing the Academy and Skills sessions; future proofing our website around evolving technology, building greater sponsorship capability and finally, in the Juniors, restructuring the Division to reduce key-person risk.
Our financial position also continues to be strong thanks to the great work from our Finance Director (Peter) over many years. Peter has established a solid financial base to give us the flexibility to make decisions around investment decisions (e.g; website rebuild) so that we can move quickly where necessary.
Significant achievements
There have been many stand-out achievements during 2023/24:
• We registered 805 players – the first time this milestone has been reached
• Record:
o Girls Registrations (77) with high retention
o Seniors’Teamentrances(15)
o Juniors Mixed Club Championship for the 3rd successive season
• Working closely with CNSW we are now offering 2 x Cricket Blast playing Options with a new Tuesday Twilight
• Our already good relationship with the WPH Sports Club has been strengthened with sponsorship support for our new playing shirts and regular BBQ’s being put on for our Cricket Blast participants and their families
• Future proofing our clothing supply, distribution and storage by switching from Volunteer effort to a 3rd party supplier managed shared service arrangement
• The emergence of our ‘home-grown’ young leaders who have excelled in their leadership roles – Danielle Chivers (Blast); Will McLennan (Communication and Social Media) and Connor Hindmarch (Head Coach)
• Finally, we are also seeing quality new volunteers joining our Executive Committee to add fresh perspectives.
At Association level, congratulations to our Leaders who continue to make a significant contribution to building a strong Association:
• President: Andrew Miedler (4 years)
• Junior Competition Secretary: Rob Hanich (4 years)
• Senior Representative Secretary: Paul Byrom (2 years)
• Junior Representative Secretary: Joseph Cooray (2 years)
• Senior Competition Committee: Steve Quanborough (2 years)
Finally, Denise Anderson (Annetts) was re-elected as one of our Association Patrons for her 17th season.
