Girls Report
The 2023/24 season for the girls has been another success growing from 5 to 7 teams, including 1 team in the newly formed Friday night Stage 1 softball competition run by HKHDCA.
Girls now representing over 10% of the Clubs total registrations, which is a significant result and a reflection of the Club’s support for Girls cricket.
On the field, we had our most successful year ever with multiple teams making the finals and two of our teams playing in Grand Finals, but narrowly missing out. A special congratulations to the McGrath team for being the first-ever WPHCCC team to become minor premiers in the North Shore Competition.
These on field results are a massive improvement from hardly winning a game a few short seasons ago.
Some off field highlights included;
• Spirit of Cricket / Pink Stumps
• Movember
• Winning the West Pennant Hills Sports Club Christmas tree competition.
We successfully ran our third Spirit of Cricket /Pink Stumps day at John Purchase Oval. The girls’ teams once again made treats to share, dressed up in pink gear and embraced the Spirit of Cricket ! Thank you to everyone who helped make the day a great success, again raising just over $2000 towards the McGrath Foundation.
Each team nominated one player to receive the “Spirit of Cricket” award. Congratulations girls – we are so proud of you!
We also chose a team to be the winners of the perpetual Spirit of Cricket Cup trophy – and congratulations go to the Stage 1 Harris team for their
enthusiasm, commitment and Sportpersonship. They are our first WPHCCC Stage 1 team in the Hornsby competition. They may be small in stature but showed a mighty spirit each week and had lots of fun along the way.
Thanks for your worthy nomination, Nick!
Your coaching efforts were amazing and you are a great role model for the team.
