Best Childhood Memory?
Growing up on the farm with my sister.
My First Day as a (Trainee) Perfusionist was:
I was taken straight into theatre and watched a case.
What drew me to Perfusion:
I wanted a career that was clinical based and could make a direct impact on the patient’s life. Whilst this encompasses a lot of different healthcare professions, I fell into the role by meeting a perfusionist at the beach.
My favourite area of interest within Perfusion:
Paediatrics- after doing my student project on the use of Berlin Heart (EXCOR) therapy in New-Zealand, I found the complexity of the anatomy in congenital patients really interesting. I would like to continue my research in this area.
Where do you see the future of perfusion? How or what would you like to see?
I would like to see the introduction of new technology that would allow increased quality of life for paediatrics with a ventricular assist device.
Favourite memory from a conference / speaker / most inspirational perfusion -related seminar you went to?
Watching my colleagues via zoom at the last ANZCP conference, however, due to COVID I haven’t been able to attend a conference in person.
Name something you appreciate about the team you work in?
I have met some incredible people, who have become some of my closest friends.
