Our New Vegepod Installations Feature on Channel 9 ...
Last November, we were excited to welcome the team from Channel 9 program, A Current Affair (ACA), who visited our Wyoming home to feature the new Vegepods that had been installed for the benefit of our residents.
It has long been recognised that there are many therapeutical benefits associated with exposure to plants and green space, and particularly to gardening, which are beneficial for both mental and physical health.
Therapeutic gardens have been used in hospitals for years and were strongly supported by Florence Nightingale, as it was felt that they improved the surroundings for patients, visitors and staff. Other studies emphasised the beneficial effects on stress.
Summer Hill resident, Lillie Lloyd, along with fellow residents Kathleen Smith, Toshiko Kishi, and Patrick O'Connor featured in the TV story.
Lillie talked about how much she missed her garden after moving into residential aged care and what a pleasure it was to see both flowers, fruit and herbs growing in the Vegepods. In consultation with the chef, residents have been delighted to see many of the fruit and herbs ending up in their evening meal.
Kathleen told Brady Halls from ACA that she loved the fact that the Vegepods were at an accessible height, making it easy to garden from the comfort of a chair.
Toshiko was pleasantly surprised when Simon Holloway, the Owner of Vegepods and a previous winner of 'Shark Tank', explained in Japanese how his portable gardening system works.
Hardi now has a Vegepod garden at all six of its homes, with some even having multiple pods for resident enjoyment.
