JOHN ANTILL SCHOLARSHIP
John Antill was the President of KLAC from May 1996 to October 1997. His involvement with KLAC spanned almost 9 years, with strong links back to a successful athletic career during his school and university days.
His sudden death at Bannockburn Oval during Little Athletics activities on Saturday 25 October 1997, was a shock to all and a great loss to KLAC, to which he had given so much. In his memory, a Scholarship Fund was set up. Many people have given very generously to this fund, and further contributions can be made through the Treasurer.
THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Scholarship will provide a cash contribution to selected athletes each year. It is intended to provide financial assistance with athletics training, costs incurred in attending competitions and to help with the provision of essential or specialised equipment.
The Scholarship will be awarded annually and will be held for one year only. The funds must be applied to further the athlete’s career during the current Little Athletics season. All registered KLAC athletes are eligible, but should have been members of the Centre for at least two years. Hence preference will normally be given to athletes in older age groups.
The award of the Scholarship to an athlete is separate to any contribution the Centre may make to an athlete selected to represent NSW in the Australian Little Athletics Championships.
The Antill Scholarship may be awarded to the same person in more than one year, but the judging panel would take prior awards into consideration.
The selection panel will comprise a minimum of three members of the KLAC Executive, Past Presidents and Life Members, but will specifically exclude any parent of a nominated athlete. It is possible that no Scholarship will be awarded in any one year.
Each Club may nominate suitable athletes; athletes may also nominate themselves. Relevant information and comments to support the nomination may be included.
Nominations must be lodged with the President by 31 March 2024. The Scholarship holder/s will be announced on Presentation Day.
MCFADDEN COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
The McFadden Community Engagement Scholarship is to be awarded to a KLAC member in the U13-17 age group interested in becoming an Athletics Official and/or Athletics Coach and giving back to the KLAC community. The applicant must be prepared to contribute to the Club once the relevant courses have been completed.
The scholarship has been created as a reflection of the huge contribution that John and Belinda have and continue to make to Little Athletics and their desire to see athletics adequately supported moving forward.
Little Athletics can only flourish with administration, official and coaching support.
KLAC has a strong sense of purpose and the creation of this Scholarship is to enhance those aspects of Little Athletics that is other than the athlete.
Candidates will be required to submit an application detailing why they consider themselves to be worthy candidates for the scholarship. Application will need to be submitted by 31 March 2024.
The scholarship will be award at the Presentation Day.
