The Gospel of Matthew presents Jesus as Good News for all people.
The birth of Jesus is recorded in Matthew’s Gospel in this way.
Mary was engaged to Joseph
And she found out she was having a baby.
Joseph, I’m having a baby!
Joseph was a good man who always tried to do the right things.
What a surprise!
While Joseph was thinking about this, an angel appeared to him in a dream.
Joseph, everything is all right. Trust Mary and trust God.
The angel explained that it was through the power of God’s Spirit that Mary was with child.
Hey, Joseph! It’s a boy! Good news! His name is to be Jesus. When Joseph woke up he knew what he had to do.
Will you marry me, Mary?
Yes, Joseph, of course I will.
Our son will be called Emmanuel, which means God is with us.
And so it was.
