Fall 2021
Congratulations dear community, we made it through one of the most challenging years of our lives. I am filled with pride for our incredible and hardworking staff, and the experiences they were able to create for our community this past year.
While we have high hopes for a return to the rhythms and routine of our pre-pandemic lives, we also have a lot to be proud of looking back on this past year; from the lantern walk, after school care, Thursday markets, volunteer opportunities, music performances and so much more our staff was able to weave such beauty into such a hard season and for that I am so thankful.
With every comment, conversation or review the Sellwood Community House receives I am constantly humbled by our staff and volunteers who kept our small nonprofit community center running each day, even through a pandemic! Our staff and volunteers dream big and are constantly going above and beyond to make this special neighborhood gem a true home away from home. A place where all are able to come LEARN, PLAY, GATHER and CONNECT.
In Little Women, Louisa May Alcott wrote, “The humblest tasks are beautified when loving hands do them.”
We all have the potential to make beautiful things. Out of life, our workplaces, our homes and our communities. We were created to do more than simply perform tasks, go through the motions or check off boxes. Fostering community within ourselves and our children brings beauty to our lives and we are dedicated to bring lots of beauty to our community. There is such promise and excitement for what lies ahead.
I want to share my most sincere appreciation for our staff, volunteers and all of you: who continue to support our small nonprofit and continue to dream big with us and share your positive experiences with others.
I look forward to welcoming you through our doors to celebrate our third Fall here at the Sellwood Community House. It’s going to be a great year!
WITH APPRECIATION, ASHLEY ASBJORNSEN Executive Director
