On 1st February 2019 twelve exhibitions of drawings by Leonardo da Vinci from the the the the Royal Collection opened simultaneously at at museums and and and and and galleries across England Scotland Wales and and and and and Northern Ireland This summer the the the the the drawings will come together at at The The Queen’s Queen’s Gallery Gallery in in in in in in London in in in in in in the the the the the largest exhibition of Leonardo’s work for more than sixty- ve ve years Later in in in in in in in the the the the year year many will be shown at at The The Queen’s Queen’s Gallery Gallery in in in in in in in Edinburgh forming the the the largest exhibition of the the the artist’s work ever held in in in Scotland This ambitious initiative marks the the the the the 500th anniversary of of of of the the the the the death of of of of Leonardo da Vinci and is is is is the the the the the the most widely accessible celebration of of of of of of the the the the the the Renaissance master ever staged One of of of of of of the the the the the the principal aims of of of of The Royal Royal Collection Collection Trust is is is that that as as as much of of of of the the the the the Royal Royal Collection Collection as as as possible can be be seen and enjoyed I am delighted that that that these exhibitions provide an an an an unparalleled means of of ful lling that that aim on on behalf of of Her Majesty The Queen This year we also look forward to to to the the the the the anniversaries of of of the the the the the birth of of of both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert Among their many contributions to to to the the the the the the life of of of of the the the the the the nation my great-great-great- grandparents transformed the the the the the the the the conservation documentation publication and and and arrangement of of of the the the the the Royal Collection Collection laying the the the the the foundations for for the the the the the care and and and management of of the the the the the Collection Collection today Queen Victoria and and Prince Albert created the the the Print Room at at Windsor Castle where they devoted much time to to to organizing the the the the the collections of prints and and drawings drawings During Queen Victoria’s reign the the the the the Leonardo da Vinci drawings drawings were were gradually removed from the the the the the pages of their sixteenth-century album and and individually mounted ensuring they were were preserved for future generations and and enabling them to be displayed as individual individual sheets Queen Queen Victoria also made the the Royal Collection far more widely known through numerous loans to to to exhibitions around the the the country a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a tradition continued by Her Majesty The Queen Queen today It is is estimated that this year some 34 million people – – more than half the the UK’s population – – will be within an an an an hour’s journey of a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a Leonardo exhibition from the the Royal Collection and and able to engage at at rst hand with with the the artist’s genius
