WAKEFIELD DEVELOPMENT
Art and Steven Sandler
CORE PRINCIPLES
Work hard, be a good citizen, participate in your community and deliver what you promise and more.
L.M. Sandier. Steven and Art Sandler’s grandfather, came to the United States in 1920, and began selling fresh seafood from a pushcart and warehouse on Main Street in downtown Norfolk, Virginia. Working long hours with slim profit margins, their grandfather and his sons built the business to regional dominance as a distributor of fresh and frozen food. Their operations grew to reflect emerging markets and the changing lifestyles of Americans, and they began to supply the restaurant industry that served working families and fueled the economic growth of the region. The Sandler Company became synonymous with award-winning quality as the largest privately-owned company of its kind. In the early 1990’s, the Sandler Company merged with the nationally recognized Sara Lee Corporation, and in 1994, the business itself was sold to Sara Lee.
The Sandlers’ next venture was residential land development focused in the Southeast United States. Their ability to identify and capitalize on market opportunities, ultimately gained them national recognition as one of the leading developers in the nation. One of the most distinctive features of the company, especially in today's business environment, is the reputation it has earned and maintained as a company that does what it says it will do, and delivers what is promised. Their record speaks to several strengths of the company and advantages of its development approach. First, the Sandler’s experience allows them to accurately assess and define the risks, opportunities and special characteristics of a given area or property, and to also evaluate the needs or challenges that may exist in terms of community relations, environmental impacts or market characteristics , among other factors. Secondly, their organization is structured to achieve efficiency, innovation and excellence.
Fiercely competitive, the firm's leaders, Steven Sandler and Art Sandler, have demonstrated their ability, over the past two decades, to assess real estate opportunities for the creation of value, to structure favorable financing for land development and real estate investment, and to complete outstanding multi-year projects profitably within a wide range of economic and market conditions.
