international perspective, one starts to worry that if all of humanity becomes upwardly mobile to the level of this Dream, ecological breakdown and increasingly devastating resource wars are probably our future. And most of humanity is trying just that. A new American dream might be: Peace on Earth among all people, plenty enough, and upward mobility towards a greater love of life, work and passionate meaning.
Or maybe it’s possible for the entire world to attain the current American Dream without trashing the planet. That is an option that is hard to prove one way or another. I assume a finite planet means a finite amount of consumption and waste generation. Maybe I’m wrong.
Hence a freethinking liberal can question every institution, every action, and every principle that governs our behavior today. We need not be limited by the current obsessions of the Democratic Party. When observing life from the philosophical angle of meaninglessness, the possibility sky is the limit. Let’s dream about how good life could be if not limited by the current arrangement of things. This could include world peace and world economic security, global racial and sexual equality, 20-hour work weeks (unless you like/love your work and then the work- hour skies are the limit), everyone choosing the work they love, three-month vacations, two free weeks at a health spa, plenty of time and energy to be a creator, every person actively involved with governing and a
