This sentence is compelling because it uses an adjective to help address the Daily Learning Target and the main idea of the text introduced this lesson. The sentence connects to the guiding question by capturing the idea that birds use their body parts to survive. Invite students to discuss each chunk brie y, but encourage extended conversation and practice with the focus structure so many di erent jobs to do. Students apply their understanding of the meaning and structure of this sentence when writing individual notes for the Science Talk in Lessons 10 and 15 and when they work on their informative writing piece in Lessons 12–16.
