Grade 1: Module 3: Performance Task
Student-Friendly Task Invitation/Task Description
You are going to make a fun game to help people learn more about birds’ bodies!
First, you’ll need to use what you know about birds and their body parts to study a speci c bird and research how that bird’s special body parts help it to survive. Then, you will use the information from your expert bird research to write a riddle. You will also create a scienti c drawing of your expert bird on a di erent card. People will have so much fun trying to match your Expert Bird Riddle card and your Expert Bird Scienti c Drawing card when you play the game with your classmates and guests at our end of module celebration!
Using your research, write an Expert Bird Riddle card in which you inform your reader about how your bird uses two of its body parts to help it survive and thrive.
Your writing should include:
■ Facts from research to teach the reader about two body parts and how they help the bird survive
■ Adjectives to help the reader understand the bird body part
■ Correct capitalization
■ Correct punctuation
■ Accurate spelling of bird and high-frequency words
■ Neat paper
■ Words on the lines
■ Words large enough to read
On the other card, create an Expert Bird Scienti c Drawing card. Your drawing should show:
■ Accurate shapes for the bird body parts
■ Correct size of body parts
■ Correct placement of body parts
■ Details
You will share your riddle and scienti c drawing cards with family and friends at the end of module celebration!
