Anticipated misconceptions
Students who are having trouble understanding the task can draw a segment between Denver and Chicago and label it with the distance and the time.
From there, they can draw a double number line diagram.
Support for English Language Learners
Lighter Support: MLR 5 (Co-Craft Questions and Problems). To help students consider di erent relationships between distance, time and speed, present to students the initial prompt and map image without having students look at the table in question 1. Ask students to write down possible mathematical questions that they can ask about this situation. Have pairs compare their questions and share out with the whole class. Then have students work on completing the table and answering the question about how long the plane ew in 1 hour.
