dilation
A dilation with center and positive scale factor takes a point along the line whose distance is times further away from than is.
directed line segment
A line segment with an arrow at one end specifying a direction.
image
If a rigid transformation takes to , then is the pre-image and is the image.
incenter
to another point
The incenter of a triangle is the intersection of all three bisectors of the angles. It is the center of the incircle.
incircle
The circle inside a triangle that is tangent to all three side. Its center is the incenter.
inscribed
We say a polygon is inscribed in a circle if it ts inside the circle and every vertex of the polygon is on the circle. We say a circle is inscribed in a polygon if it ts inside the polygon and every side of the polygon is tangent to the circle.
inscribed angle
Given two points on a circle, an inscribed angle is the angle formed by the two lines draw from those points to a third point on the circle.
kite
A quadrilateral which has two sides next to each other that are congruent and where the other two sides are also congruent.
line of symmetry
A line of symmetry for a gure is a line such that re ection across the line takes the gure onto itself.
median (geometry)
A line from a vertex of a triangle to the midpoint of the opposite side.
oblique
A prism, pyramid, or cone is oblique if it is leaning at an angle with respect to its base.
parabola
A parabola is a curve determined by a given point and a given line. It is the set all points that are the same distance from the given point as from the given line.
parallel
Two lines that don't intersect are called parallel. We can also call segments parallel if they extend into parallel lines.
