Glossary arithmetic sequence
A sequence in which each term is the previous term plus a constant.
geometric sequence
A sequence in which each term is a constant times the previous term.
integer
A whole number (including 0) or its opposite.
recursive de nition
A way of de ning a sequence that states how to calculate each term of the sequence based on the previous term, along with any necessary initial conditions.
sequence
A list of numbers, possibly going on forever, such as all the odd positive integers arranged in order: 1, 3, 5, 7, . . . .
sum of a sequence
The sum of all the terms in a sequence.
term (of a sequence)
One of the numbers in a sequence.
