INSIDE POSSIBLE
Issue 8 of Possible is in celebration of ‘the journey’. This issue is dedicated to the feelings, the achievements and memories that happen when we decide to ‘go for it’.
An amazing group of people share their individual paths to reaching the metaphorical, literal and emotional ‘destination’. In doing so, they inspire us with the changes they have made, and the risks they have taken, to achieve their goals.
We meet David, who is grateful for the choices he was given and satisfied with the decisions he has made. A diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis at age 20 led to a life of adventure. For David, being fit and healthy is the ultimate freedom; it enables him to travel the world and motivates him to strengthen his body, care for his mum, and plan the next visit to exotic shores.
Mark, a former musician, shares some seriously impressive stories
of his time in the Australian and British music industry. With his Support Professional, Fiona, Mark is using music therapy to recover from several strokes and stay close to his first passion – drumming.
Mark and Fiona have a special bond intrinsically linked to the music and Mark’s tales of rock’n’roll.
Margaret’s journey happens each week, travelling over 160 kilometres from her home in rural NSW to her daughter’s home in
Canberra. This trip is a special one that enables Margaret to regularly see her expansive family, while two teams of Support Professionals make sure she receives care in two very different places. Not surprisingly, they’ve also become part of her big, happy family.
With World MS Day approaching on 30th May, we meet Andrew and Jane, who explain how they’ve learned to make Andrew’s condition part, but not all, of their lives.
David was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) soon after they were married; fast forward, and they
have just celebrated their 30-year wedding anniversary. Love made this journey possible. Supported with knowledge and networks, they’ve lived a rewarding life, with a peaceful retirement on the cards.
Issue 8 also explains the Aussie phenomenon, Men’s Shed. A simple solution to a pervasive problem,
it has spread from very humble beginnings to over 12 countries around the world.
We also investigate the benefits of animal interaction as you age, uncovering some surprising facts about the many ways a furry, feathered or fishy friend can enrich our lives.
The concept of ‘the journey’
is fascinating because everyone experiences one, and each is unique. We hope the stories we share this month will inspire you, or someone for whom you care, to step out on
a new adventure and follow life’s passions.
