PORT MACQUARIE:
THE IDEAL RETIREMENT DESTINATION
With an average age of 50 years old and 13 retirement villages in Port Macquarie alone, you might call it a retiree’s dream.
The Mid North coast of New South Wales is known for fabulous weather, gorgeous beaches, lush hinterland and peaceful waterways.
One of its regional centres, Port Macquarie, is one of the largest regional cities in New South Wales. Wrapped in stunning nature, residents enjoy all the conveniences of urban living facilities without the hustle and bustle of big city life.
With an average age of 50 years old and 13 retirement villages in Port Macquarie alone, you might call it a retiree’s dream.
Leah is the owner of Just Better Care Mid North Coast. She says that being a beautiful oasis with little traffic, it’s an ideal location for older Australians.
“It’s a really peaceful place,” she says. “There are lots of people that move here from larger Australian cities and never leave.
“The climate is very mild and consistent, so it appeals to older Australians.”
Leah moved from hurried Sydney to Port Macquarie for a change of pace with her husband and their two-year-old son. They acquired
the Just Better Care franchise in September 2018.
Leah and her team recently sponsored the local Regional Experience in Practical Dementia (RED) conference, which provides a regional perspective on the work being done around practical dementia care.
During the conference, Leah heard from speakers about practical ways to add meaning and purpose to the lives of people living with dementia.
“I learned a lot at the conference, especially about the needs of older people living in Port Macquarie,” Leah explains.
“We are working hard to support our customers in the ways they want, in their own neighbourhoods”.
Leah’s work spans across the Mid North coast, and as far as Grafton and Armidale.
Her team of ten Support Professionals weave through the diverse landscape, visiting customers and connecting them with the community.
Often that means joining people in trips to community centres and cherished spots at the shore.
Places in which local people will always feel safe and content because this is home.
Just Better Care can provide support through personal care, respite and social and lifestyle support for older Australians and people living with disability. Want to find out more? Visit justbettercare.com today.
