Lara was just 19 years old when she started a career in the disability industry. Working in the community care sector for 12 years, she has been alongside people facing some of life’s toughest challenges, often helping them
to recover and live
well. Here she shares her thoughts on what drives her and what she loves about her job.

Lara got her rst taste of working
in community care in high school, where she organised for her school to volunteer at the athletics carnival of another local school attended by children with disabilities. Seeing the children’s smiles and laughter was enough to convince her to pursue a career helping others.
“I’ve always been passionate about advocating for disability rights, and ensuring that everyone has the chance to live independently within their own community,” Lara said.
“As a quali ed Rehabilitation Counsellor I have been able to work in so many different types of community care, in so many different roles. I’ve been a Support Professional, a Case Manager, Team Manager and now my role sits more within education.”
Lara joined Just Better Care in June 2016 as the Franchise Field Support Manager, liaising with franchise owners, government departments and peak bodies to ensure quality of care requirements are always met to a high standard.

FROM VOLUNTEER TO MANAGER: A LIFE DEDICATED TO COMMUNITY CARE
   “I think my experience as
a Support Professional and Case Manager has given me a really great understanding of the cycle of community care,” she said.
“Not only do I know how rewarding the job can be, but I also have rst-hand insight into the challenges facing the industry from all levels.
“It is my job to create education tools and resources to ensure Just Better Care franchise owners and their staff are supported through the journey and can continue to provide individualised, high quality care to our customers.”
Although she initially worked with disability customers, Lara has worked and volunteered in a wide range of industries from aged care to mental health.
After broadening her work experience she realised how much she liked the scope of work within the community care sector.
“Being in community care, you see it all, but it makes you
more aware of people’s needs and what really matters,” Lara said.
“During my time on the
Just Better Care
ground, it was the customers
and families who taught me the most. They showed me how to be emotionally resilient, how to adapt to change and make the most out of any situation.
“I’ve had many rich and varied life experiences in different jobs, companies and places.
“There is nothing more rewarding than being there for people in their time of need and assisting them to transform their own lives.”
Working at Just Better Care is a great way to begin a career in community care, or continue a career dedicated to improving the lives of others.
