The Workplace
Introduction
Whether you are getting your very first part-time job, working somewhere for the summer, or even starting a career, there will be a lot to think about when it comes to managing your allergies. You may be wondering: “When do I tell my employer about my allergies?” or “If I say I have allergies during an interview, will it lower my odds of getting a job?” or, maybe: “How will I make sure that I’m not in danger in the workplace?”
It is always important to be up front and honest about your allergies. Telling your employer is important. And telling co-workers can also be very helpful. The precautions you have to take will differ depending upon the nature of your work. If you are working in a restaurant, you may choose to work in a specific location or wear gloves when handling certain foods that contain your allergen.
