Greenwood has recently received accolades from some key magazines and online destination websites. Country Living named Greenwood as one of the top “25 Small Lake Towns We’re Obsessed With,” noting Lake Greenwood State Park and Greenwood’s craft brewery, Good Times Brewery, as key places to visit while in the area. Southern Living also mentioned Greenwood as one of “15 Affordable Small Towns We Love,” highlighting Greenwood’s proximity to major interstates, making travel a breeze.
Also highlighted was Greenwood’s bustling Uptown area, which
has recently experienced growth in retail and dining options.
Several local eateries have been recognized for their award-winning cuisine through various online mentions in state and Southeastern publications. Inn on the Square, Miss Ann’s Fried Chicken, and Harris Landing have all received well deserved kudos. Uptown Greenwood coordinates events such as Uptown Live, a concert series showcasing local and regional talent, as well as special concerts like Springfest and Oktoberfest.
The Greenwood Regional Tourism and Visitors Bureau (GRTVB)
is the community’s primary marketing organization. Formed by
a partnership between the City and County of Greenwood, the GRTVB’s primary mission is to recruit and service visitors. In recent years, Greenwood has become a strong sports destination playing host to countless volleyball, basketball, fishing, baseball, and golf tournaments. Home to Lander University, Greenwood has hosted regional and conference tournaments for the Peach Belt Conference and the NCAA tournaments. Greenwood is also home to the Self Regional Healthcare Women’s Health Classic, an LPGA Symetra tour signature event for women’s golf. For the leisure traveler, Greenwood is home to numerous award winning events and festivals including the SC Festival of Flowers, SC Festival of Discovery, SC Festival of Stars, and Catfish Feastival.
Additionally, GRTVB markets and promotes signature attractions across Greenwood, including the Ninety Six National Historic Site, the Benjamin Mays Historic Site, Cokesbury College, Uptown Greenwood and its cultural organizations, and other historic landmarks. Lake Greenwood has undergone key studies to assist GRTVB in its marketing and branding of Greenwood’s signature waterway. Promotion through additional interpretive signage as well as market specific advertising are the initial steps that GRTVB has taken as it seeks to build the Lake as a larger tourism attraction for Greenwood County in the future. Whatever your preference might be, Greenwood’s diverse community, small town hospitality, and unique offerings will charm you into enjoying life in South Carolina’s hidden gem, where there is always something blooming for you to do.
