 KEVIN ACKLAND - DIRECTOR
In 1992, and just by chance, I came across the traditional trade of ‘Fibrous Plastering’. Back then, I didn’t realise how varied this profession is and how it can help to develop multiple skills to be used throughout life!
From contemporary commissions to traditional enriched and ornate features, this trade allows an individual to produce exquisite pieces of work, just from raw materials. We often use basic metalwork and woodwork skills that can be used regularly at home, DIY is a good example of this. It could be an original clay model, or the finished article, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing something that is created by hand and of course by you. Satisfaction encourages personal passion, a feeling that I just could not get enough of. I was always the last one to leave at the end of the day, and the first to arrive in the morning, keen to continue with the piece I was working on. A feeling like is very rare to find!
From working with a billionaire at their luxury penthouse, to restoring and preserving Buckingham Palace - one of the most prestigious buildings in the UK. New build Royal Palaces around the globe, or careful conservation to a Grade I listed building here in the UK. Every day is certainly different!
This is why I have been at Locker & Riley for 30 years.
“Working at Locker and Riley has been a great chance to learn new skills within a more creative, artisanal industry, and has built up my confidence within the field. The team helps you to develop your desired skill set and pushes you to excel within it, giving great guidance and support for you within your career journey, whilst rewarding hard work and determination. I would definitely recommend trying it out and seeing if it fits for you.” Nate – CAD Designer.
