Page 15 - Volume 3 - Walks In The Black Range
P. 15
This is not to say that Black Canyon is not worth the effort. It is as beautiful a small stream valley as you will find in the Gila National Forest in its first few miles east of the road. Fall can be particularly compelling with aspens and oaks providing glorious color all along the way. I’ve never made it too much
farther than the Aspen Canyon confluence. When the fishing is good or sometimes even when it’s bad, I tend to cover less ground. I would like to make it up to the falls in the Black Canyon Box one day, but the new additional hiking mileage and always slow drive on FR 150 are conspiring against even considering this destination as a day trip.
