posts...
On June 15, we published two posts by Susan D. Roebuck - the first in a series entitled “The Silver Fire - As It Happened” - were published on The Free Range blog. Susan was living in Kingston and brought a wonderful perspective to how we viewed the fire.
The Silver Fire - As It Happened - Part 1
A post and photographs by Susan D. Roebuck of Kingston, evacuated to Hillsboro.
This post covers the period from the start of the fire to the first day Highway 152 was closed west of Kingston.
More tomorrow.
On Friday 6/7 it rained.
Friday evening I took a walk with Joey. I smelled smoke. I heard a plane flying over the range.
The alarm went off after dark sometime. I heard the trucks leave and could see their lights heading up 152.
On my way to work at the bank Saturday morning, I saw this light wisp. It was far away, but I thought it was closer because seeing a plume of
smoke over town has a psychological effect. (editor: see image at top of second column)
By Sunday morning the plume was much bigger. (editor: see image at top of this column)
Emergency vehicles started showing up, there was a sense of readiness all around the fire station (across the street from the bank).
Around noon three fire trucks head up into the forest.
