4.4.2   Nominal wages dynamics
With a gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in current prices in US dollar terms at $2,964.193 in 2018 Ukraine is Europe’s poorest country  , according to October's update of the World Economic Outlook published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Ukraine is behind Moldova ($3,226.717), Belarus ($6,020.043) and Russia ($10,950.492). According to IMF methodology, GDP is expressed in current US dollars per person and the data is derived by first converting GDP in national currency to US dollars and then dividing it by total population.
Real wages in Ukraine grew 12.9% year-on-year in September following a 15.7% y/y growth in August,   the State Statistics Service reported on October 29.
The average monthly nominal wage rose to UAH9,042 a month ($321)
from UAH8,977 ($334) in August, but declined 1.2% month-on-month in real and dollar terms.
The leading regions for average monthly wages remained the city of Kyiv (UAH13,614), the Ukrainian-controlled Donetsk region (UAH9,850) and the Kyiv region (UAH9,132).
The largest nominal average wage growth was in public services and defence (32% y/y) and administration services (31% y/y). Within the industrial sector, the highest nominal wages were in pharmaceuticals (UAH16,389), mining (UAH12,870), and in coke and oil production (UAH11,398).
