Nigeria set to advance
gas plans at upcoming
conference
Last month, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petro- leum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, declared 2020 as the Year of Gas for the West African nation. In line with this initiative, the Minister and the Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari, led by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, will host the third annual Nigeria Inter- national Petroleum Summit (NIPS) which will take place on February 9-12, 2020 in Abuja, Nigeria.
Determined to showcase Nigeria as the fore- most oil and gas investment destination, the conference will feature a spotlight session on the Nigeria LNG Train-7 project, which recently reached the final investment decision on the major gas expansion deal that is set to boost the plant’s production capacity to 30mn tonnes per year from the current 22.5mn tpy.
Further, NIPS will provide the opportunity for the nation to outline how local companies can lend a hand in the advancement of the coun- try’s petroleum industry as it works to boost its output.
“Attracting over 5,000 international energy industry executives, NIPS is the most oppor- tune space for Nigeria to communicate its growth and development plans, more so since the Honorable Minister declared 2020 as the year of gas for the country,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber and CEO of the Centurion Law Group. “Following the recent $10bn investment on Train-7, which
will enable the NLNG processing unit to remain the fifth-largest supplier of LNG in the world, Nigeriaisrighttobuildonthismomentum,”he added.
The 2020 instalment of the NIPS conference will be anchored by the theme, Widening the Integration Circle: Technology, Knowledge, Sustainability and Partnership and will present strategies and opportunities for growth in oil, gas and energy technologies as well as showcase major contract signings.

Equatorial Guinea to attend Global Energy Forum in Abu Dhabi
As part of Equatorial Guinea’s Year of Invest- ment Initiative, which is centered on driving investment in Equatorial Guinea and Africa’s leading oil and gas-producing economies, the Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, will participate in the
Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Council in Abu Dhabi on January 10-12.
Hostedunderthetheme“TheGeopoliticsof the Energy Transformation,” the forum is gather- ing hundreds of government and industry lead- ers to set the agenda for 2020 and beyond.
As part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Industry of the UAE, the forum will focus on three key themes: the role of the oil and gas industry in the energy transition, financing the future of energy and interconnections in a new era of geopolitics.
“It is a pleasure to confirm my participation at the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Council in Abu Dhabi on January 10-12,” declared Obiang Lima.
He added: “The participation of Equatorial Guinea in this forum is strategic, as it marks the kick off of our Year of Investment Initiative that will see our delegation promoting key invest- ment opportunities and projects in Equatorial Guinea throughout the world this year.”
In 2020, Equatorial Guinea will be organis- ing, and participating in, a series of high-level international roadshows in China, the UAE, the US and Africa, along with three national confer- ences in Malabo.
