ENI has signed an MoU with Bahrain’s Tatweer Petroleum to explore potential collaboration in Bahrain’s energy sector including LNG and oil and gas
The agreement is expected to enhance collab- oration in the energy sector, by facilitating the joint assessment and launch of new initiatives in areas of mutual interest to Eni and Tatweer Petroleum.
In accordance with Bahrain’s national energy plan, renewable energy is expected to be an area of particular interest to consider potential busi- ness opportunities.
In the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector, the collaboration aims to target a more sustainable and efficient energy mix to meet Bahrain’s future energy needs.
Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, minister for oil of Bahrain and chairman of Tatweer Petroleum, said, “This MoU will allow for further discussion on collaboration between Tatweer Petroleum and Eni, including the shar- ing of experience, expertise and support on renewable energy, LNG supply and exploration activities.”
The minister further added that Bahrain is keen to collaborate on joint projects and exchange ideas and experiences in areas related to development programmes in the oil and gas sector as well as the energy sector.
Eni’s CEO Claudio Descalzi commented that this MoU demonstrates Eni’s commitment to expanding its presence in Bahrain while pur- suing Eni’s overall decarbonisation strategy. In addition, this forms part of the company’s transi- tion towards green energy and the circular econ- omy that has been underway since 2014.
“In order to ensure long-term sustainability, Eni promotes the development of renewable energy and conducts scientific and technological research,” Descalzi further added.
Eni began operating in Bahrain in 2019, with one offshore exploration license. The cur- rent exploration acreage in the region includes the UAE onshore areas in Sharjah and offshore areas in Abu Dhabi and ras Al Khaimah. In Abu Dhabi, Eni has three offshore development and production concessions and current equity pro- duction amounts to approximately 50,000 bar- rels per day.™

Syria, Turkey on collision course in Idlib
Syria and Turkey were on a collision course in the rebel-held stronghold of Idlib on Monday after five Turkish troops were killed by the regime, which has refused calls from Ankara to halt its advance.
President Bashar al-Assad’s military vowed on Sunday to keep up its campaign to regain control of the whole country, as civilian casualties mounted and waves more fled.
Pro-regime forces are closing in on a section of a key motorway that links its cities of Damascus and Aleppo that has long been in their sights after re-capturing several major towns from Islamist fighters.
Five Turkish soldiers were killed and five more wounded on Monday in an attack by Syrian government forces on a Turkish military post in the Taftanaz area, in deadly
clashes which threatened to draw the neighbours into a direct confrontation they have so far managed to avoid in the nine-year war.
The “regime’s intense artillery fire targeted our elements sent as reinforcement to the region with an aim to prevent clashes in Idlib, ensure our border security and stop migration and human tragedy”, the Turkish ministry said.
The Turkish military retaliated, it added, “destroying targets”.
Al Jazeera’s Sinem Koseoglu, reporting from the Bab al-Hawa crossing on the Syrian side of the border, said the attack targeted
the Taftanaz military base, which the Turkish army took over from Syrian military last week to establish a new observation post.
“The latest escalation is seen as the highest escalation that has ever happened between Ankara and Damascus in Syria’s nine-year war,” she said.
“The Turkish armed forces are being hit directly by the Syrian army - and today is a
benchmark in this escalation.”
Turkish President recep Tayyip Erdogan
and Defence Minister Hulusi Akar held an emergency meeting immediately the attack, Turkey’s NTv television reported.
It also happened as a delegation from russia, the Syrian government’s main ally, is in Ankara for talks on the situation in Idlib. Another round of talks is expected to be held on Monday.
