Russian Apteka.ru pharmacy, Tmall, Beru jump in the top-10 online marketplaces in 2019
Apteka.ru online platform of large pharmaceutical distributor Katren made it to the top ten of Russia's largest e-commerce players in 2019, ranking 7th with a sales increase of 141% to RUB34bn ($462mn), Vedomosti daily reported on April 10 citing Data Insight.
As reported by bne IntelliNews, the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis is shaking up the Russian offline and online retail industry. Major changes could be seen in online trade of medicine and pharmaceuticals, with large players previously prevented from entering the market due to unclear legislation.
The CEO of Katren, Leonid Konobeev, attributed the fast growth of Apteka.ru to expanding its assortment and speeding up delivery to an average of 7 hours. He anticipates at least 70% growth in 2020.
Other fastest-growing platforms were Beru
(a joint venture of Sberbank and Yandex internet major) that jumped from 52nd place to 9th
with RUB28bn sales, soaring by 849%, and Aliexpress Russia's Tmall platform ranked
6th with RUB36bn sales, increasing by 162%
(a joint venture of Alibaba Group, Mail.ru Group internet major, Megafon and Russian Direct Investment Fund).
Russian e-commerce major Wildberries remained the market leader with RUB210bn, followed by Citilink (RUB90bn), Ozon (RUB81bn), M.Video and Eldorado electronics retailers (RUB57.5bn for M.Video, ranked 4th, and RUB28bn for Eldorado, ranked 10th ), and DNS (RUB54bn). Fashion and apparel retailer Lamoda was 8th with RUB33bn sales in 2019.
