Telekom Slovenije sees slim 2019 net profit due to one-off payment related to negative arbitration ruling
Slovenia’s majority state owned telco Telekom Slovenije posted a slim profit of €1.2mn in 2019, down from €33.3mn a year earlier, due to the one-off payment after it lost an arbitration case with Antenna, its Greek partner in a media joint venture, it said on April 2.
Without one-off payment the telco would generate net profit of €27.4mn. Telekom set up a joint venture with Antenna Group in 2013 to broadcast Planet TV, a small commercial TV station that
has been in the red since it was launched.
The Greek Antenna Group, which was co-owner of Antenna TV SL through Antenna Slovenia, launched an arbitration procedure as it wanted to withdraw from the ownership of the company, but could not agree with Telekom on the payment for about a third of the stake.
In 2019, Telekom Slovenije Group’s Ebitda amounted to €205.4mn, which is 11% more than a year ago, the company said in a bourse filing.
Net sales revenues of Telekom Slovenije Group totaled €675.4mn in 2019.
“While this is 6% less than in 2018, the 2019 revenue no longer includes the revenue from Blicnet, and also the revenue from international traffic in the wholesale market declined somewhat, as well as the revenue from mobile subscribers and the revenue from IT goods
and services,” it said.
Telekom Slovenije underlined that it retained
its leading market share in mobile telephone services and fixed broadband service in the country, with a 39.9% share in the mobile segment, a 31% share in the broadband internet access segment, as well as a 47.1% share in the IPTV segment.
Telekom Slovenije Group invested €167.8mn in 2019 mainly in expanding the access to fiber optics network, modernization of the radio network, and the development of services.
Telekom Slovenije said in December it expects to generate net profit of €27.5mn and operating revenues €676mn in 2020.
