Baring Vostok along with Goldman Sachs also eyed a 49% stake in Maksima Group operating off-price clothing stores Familia, that took 14th place in the 2017 ranking with RUB12bn turnover for over 190 stores in 70 Russian cities.
Although at the 20th place and not the fastest growing retailer, SPS-Holding operating Red&White alcohol stores boasted a turnover of RUB138bn in 2016. The chain operates over 4,700 stores in 50 regions, with over 30% of the sales accounted for by non-alcohol items.
Russia's largest importer of wines Mistral Alko took the 48th place in the rating (RUB7.3bn turnover). According to RBC Mistral took 11% market share of wines imported to Russia.
Another wine importer Uta-NN with an estimated market share of 6% took the 10th place with turnover of RUB8.8bn, while Otdohni-77 wine store chain with turnover RUB5.6bn took the 49th place in the rating.
SPS-Holding is followed by Baucenter home appliances and materials stores, operating eight hypermarkets, recently launching internet sales and preparing to enter the Moscow market. Baucenter had a turnover of RUB14bn in 2016.
The biggest retailer on the list is the fast-growing runner-up Lenta , that more than doubled its turnover from RUB144bn in 2013 to RUB306bn in 2016. The company boosted its store count by 40% to 240, and plans to open another 70 stores in 2017, out of which 30 hypermarkets.
Detsky Mir children’s goods retailer controlled by AFK Sistema took the 30th place with RUB79.5bn turnover. In February Detsky Mir opened the IPO season for Russian companies raising RUB18.4bn on Moscow Exchange. Another children’s goods retailer Rich Family with turnover of RUB9bn took 35th place.
The fastest growing company in the high-tech segment and the fourth in the rating was IRE-Polyus laser producer, that according to RBC produces every fourth laser in the world and is part of the IPG group that boasts a turnover of $1.6bn in 2016.
South Center took the fifth place and topped the agriculture and food products segment. The company benefited from Russia's record-high grain harvests and exported 35mn tonnes of grain in 2016, making a turnover of RUB20bn.
In the medicine sector, the fastest growing company was the Irkutsk-based Pharmasyntez, founded 20 years ago by Indian expat Vikram Singh to become Russia's largest producer of tuberculosis and HIV medicine with turnover of RUB8.6bn.
Transportation sector in the top 10 fastest growing Russian companies in 2017 is represented by Petersburg Tractor Factory that in 2016 benefited from RUB1.5bn state subsidy for agricultural equipment purchasing, boosted the production by 800 vehicles to 2,300 units and posted turnover of RUB12.4bn (RUB2.8bn in 2013).
Car trader Auto-Trade took the 9th place with RUB8bn turnover and selling 44,600 vehicles in 2016, up by 11% on a market that dropped by 12%.
