decision to introduce an agricultural land market in Ukraine should be made at an all-Ukrainian referendum, according to the results of a survey. If that referendum were held then 64% said they would vote against the introduction of a land market for agricultural land in Ukraine, 36% would support this initiative. Granting foreigners the right to buy agricultural land in Ukraine is even more unpopular, but has been part of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recommendations for Ukraine’s land market reforms as it would attack tens of billions of dollar in investment. Only 15% of those polled support opening up the land market to foreign investors. The land market legislaton is already on the books, but due to the political sensitivity of the issue the final bill accepted by the Rada is a very much watered down version of the initial draft and limits the selling to small plots of land for the time being. Two-thirds of the respondents know about the opening of the agricultural land market that comes into effect on July 1, 2021 -- 46% have heard a lot about it, 32% have heard something, and 22% do not know anything behind this, the survey found as cited by Interfax Ukraine.
