The regulator decided to cancel the results of annual auctions at which the capacity for 2021 was allocated in terms of interstate relations between Ukraine and states that are not parties to the Energy Community (Russia and Belarus). The regulator also instructed the transmission system operator to reimburse the auction winners for the funds paid for the capacities allocated at the annual auctions.

    Several solar power producers intend to sue Ukrenergo, the state run transmission system operator, for ‘illegally’ restricting production of wind and solar power this spring, says Artem Semenyshyn chairman of the Solar Energy Association of Ukraine, reports reform.energy. The problem of ‘over production’ by solar plants is to sharpen in the summer, typically the peak solar power production season.
     Responding to strong world steel prices, Ukraine’s steel makers increased steel production by 7.2% to 7mn tons in January-April, compared to the same period last year. Ukrmetalurgprom, the industry association, said that pig iron production was up by 9.1%, also to 7mn tons. Last year, half of Ukraine’s metal exports went to China, which invested a record $542bn in infrastructure.
Responding to the world surge in iron and steel prices, Ukraine’s pig iron production rose 9% to 7.1mn tons during the first four months of this year, compared to January-April 2020. Ukraine slightly outpace world growth of 8.6% and put Ukraine in 10th place worldwide for iron production, according to the World Steel Association. By contrast, Ukraine’s iron production growth in 2020 was only 1.8% y/y.
Ukraine increased steel production by 7.2% during the same period, to 7.1mn tons. Giving production a big boost, Ukraine’s steel production was up 38% y/y in April. Today, Ukraine is the world’s 13th largest steel producer, according to the World Steel Association.
