Foreign investors poured $10.8bn into the real sector of the Belarusian economy (except for banks) in 2018, representatives of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus told BelTA on February 14.
The main investors were commercial entities from Russia (38.3% of all the investments received), the UK (25.7%), and Cyprus (7.8%).
Foreign direct investments amounted to $8.5bn, 78.7% of all the foreign investments received.
In 2018 Belarusian commercial entities (except for banks) invested a total of $6.1bn abroad.
Considerable investment volumes were channelled into companies in Russia (68.2% of the total), Ukraine (16.5%), and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (6.7%). The FDI share was as high as 93.5% of the total outbound investments.
By 2025 Belarus plans to double the net FDI inflow, reads Belarus' 2035 draft strategy for FDI . The draft document has been posted on the Belarus legal forum for public discussion, BelTA has learned. Belarus is set to attract $1.5-1.6bn in net FDI in 2019 and in 2020 and at least $3bn in 2025. Plans are in place to adjust the approaches to public-private partnership, financial and insurance laws and the law on free economic zones and the special legal regime of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone.
