The gross debt stock of Turkey’s central government amounted to Turkish lira (TRY) 1.22 trillion ($208bn) as of May this year, up 27.3% y/y, Treasury and Finance Ministry data released on June 20 showed. The ministry said 49.2% of the debt stock was denominated in local currency while the rest was in foreign currency. The gross debt stock includes the outstanding debt of public sector institutions, the central bank, private companies and households. The stock of Treasury receivables stood at TRY18.7bn ($3.18bn). As of the end of 2018, the gross debt stock totalled TRY1.07 trillion ($202.5bn).
