Russian natural gas volumes piped via Ukraine to European consumers in the first four month of 2019 rose to 29.3 billion cubic meters (bcm), up 6 percent from a year earlier, transport monopoly Ukrtransgaz said May 6.
Due to repairs on Russia’s Yamal-Europe gas line, the volume of Russian gas shipped across Ukraine to the EU increased by 5.3% during the first quarter, to 20bn cubic meters. In one week in April, shipment volumes jumped by 25%, to 300mn cubic meters a day. This flexibility makes Ukraine’s gas line system essential to Europe’s energy security in the 2020s, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev writes on his Facebook page.
By the start of the 2018-2019 heating season, Ukraine had accumulated 17.2 bcm of gas in its underground storage facilities, which was a record high natural gas stock over the past six years. Natural gas stocks in Ukraine's underground storage facilities (USFs) have increased by 7.8%, or by 685 million cubic meters, to 9.439 billion cubic meters (bcm) since April 5, when Ukraine started the season of pumping natural gas into its reserves. As of April 30, 2019, gas reserves in the country's USFs were 19% up from 7.93 bcm reported as of April 30, 2018, while the USFs were filled by 30%, according to the state-run gas transport system operator Ukrtransgaz. Ukraine's Cabinet, Naftogaz cut gas prices for households to US$310 per 1,000 cubic meters in May In particular, 46.06 million cubic meters of gas was injected into the storage facilities on April 30 alone. As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine on April 5 started the season of pumping natural gas into its underground storage facilities. By the start of the 2018-2019 heating season, Ukraine had accumulated 17.2 bcm of gas in its underground storage facilities, which was a record high natural gas stock over the past six years. UNIAN memo. Ukrtransgaz operates 12 underground gas storages (USFs) with a total storage capacity of about 31 bcm. The USFs are an integral part of Ukraine's gas supply system and gas transit through its territory. The company is also the operator of trunk gas pipelines carrying gas from Russia to the EU. Ukrtransgaz is wholly owned by NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
