Ukraine has used up all of its wheat export quota of 20.2 million tonnes
agreed with traders for the 2019/20 July-June season, the APK-Inform agriculture consultancy said on May 26. Ukraine will continue exporting wheat through June, deputy economy minister Taras Vysotskiy told Reuters yesterday. Last weekend, Ukraine used up the 20.2mn ton wheat export quota agreed last year for the July 2019/June 2020 season, reports APK-Inform agriculture consultancy.
Ukraine’ grain exports has hit 51.5mn tons, up 18% y/y. With the marketing year to end in six weeks, Ukraine is expected to export a record 54mn tons, Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture. Export levels of the top grains are: corn -- 27mn; wheat 19mn tons; rye – 8mn tons; and barley 4.7mn tons. Ukraine will continue exporting wheat through June, deputy economy minister Taras Vysotskiy said on May 26.
5.2.2 Current account dynamics
Ukraine’s current account (C/A) switched to a $1.4bn surplus in April from a $0.29bn deficit in March due to the trade and primary income balances switching to surplus, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) reported on May 29.
Ukraine’s current account (C/A) deficit swelled to $389mn in March from $93mn in February due the deficit of the primary income balance, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) reported on April 30. The switch of primary income balance to a $297mn deficit from a $241mn surplus was mostly due to a $111mn coupon payment on international Eurobonds, as well as dividend payments of $159mn. Meanwhile, the trade deficit shrank to $343mn from $587mn in February. In 1Q20, the C/A surplus amounted to $244mn (vs. a deficit of $150mn in 1Q19).
