QP forges ahead with LNG expansion plan
Qatar Petroleum (QP) appears to be
undeterred by the challenging market conditions created by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. QP’s president and CEO, Saad al-Kaabi, who is also Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, told Reuters this week that his company would seek to raise debt for its planned LNG expansion in 2021.
Qatar currently produces 77mn tonnes per year (tpy) of LNG, and is planning to boost this to 126mn tpy by 2027. However, QP has already encountered delays, and al- KaabitoldReutersthatthecompanywould postpone the start of production from its new gas facilities until 2025 following a delay in the bidding process. However, the company is not planning to downsize the North Field expansion – the world’s largest LNG project.
