Petrofac inaugurates
construction skills training
centre in Algeria
Petrofac today inaugurated its construction skills training centre in Hassi Messaoud, Southern Algeria, following the completion
of a programme to upgrade the centre’s facilities. e centre will provide training
for the next generation of Algeria’s oil and
gas industry workforce, with a capacity to train up to 400 Algerian delegates annually. e centre was designed, built and will be operated by Petrofac, as part of the company’s commitment to the development of local skills. Petrofac has been active in Algeria since 1997, with more than 85% of its in-country workforce sourced locally.
e training centre’s facilities include modern, well equipped, air-conditioned classrooms and large open workshops
with state-of-the art equipment. e curriculum covers ve specialist trade areas - Instrumentation, electrical, Mechanical, Pipework and Welding - all with a strong emphasis on health and safety. An applied training methodology will provide students with the theoretical knowledge and essential practical skills they need to work in their chosen professional discipline upon graduation.

Honeywell notes Algeria, Brazil FCPA concerns
We are co-operating with certain
investigations by the U.S. Department
of Justice (DOJ), the U.S. Securities and exchange Commission (SeC) and Brazilian authorities relating to our use of third
parties who previously worked for our UOP business in Brazil in relation to Petrobras. e investigations are focused on compliance with the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and similar Brazilian laws, and involve, among other things, document production and interviews with former and current management and employees.
e DOJ and the SeC are also examining a matter involving a foreign subsidiary’s prior engagement of Unaoil S.A.M. in Algeria.
We are co-operating with the authorities in each of the above matters. While we cannot predict the outcome of these matters, based on the facts currently known to us, we do
not anticipate that these matters will have

Algeria, Total in talks on deal
Talks between Sonatrach and Total, on the French company’s acquisition of Anadarko Petroleum’s Algerian assets, are making progress, newspapers in the North African state reported. Anadarko’s shareholders will vote on the acquisition on August 8.
Initially, Algerian o cials had come out against the deal, although their tone mellowed somewhat subsequently.
One factor slowing approval of the deal for Total has been the state of ux in Algeria. A number of o cials have been arrested amid wide-ranging corruption probes. Last week, Amar Ghoul, a former cabinet minister, was
put in preventative detention. APS has said Ghoul has been linked to cases involving Ali Haddad, the CeO of eTRHB, and Mahieddine Tahkout.
Apache awards Schlumberger work
Apache egypt awarded Schlumberger a two-year contract with an optional two-year extension for the provision of formation evaluation services in 11 exploration wells in Western egypt.

NOC and Schlumberger to
establish Benghazi training
centre
As part of National Oil Corporation’s (NOC) focus on upskilling the next generation of
oil sector workers, the corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday, July 15, 2019, with the world’s leading oil eld services provider Schlumberger to establish a specialised training and development centre in Benghazi.
e centre will concentrate on professional excellence in exploration, drilling and petroleum engineering, and be equipped with the latest high-tech equipment to develop quali ed technical sta necessary to sustain the sector.
Development programmes will deliver on-the-job training and aim to upskill
key engineering competencies to improve production rates, operational e ciency, and workplace safety. Courses will prioritise the teaching of additional recovery methods, innovative directional drilling and fracturing techniques, as well as the development of shale oil reserves.
Schlumberger has also o ered to host Libyan engineers and technicians through on-work training programmes across the company’s worldwide operations.
e agreement was signed during a visit to Schlumberger’s London headquarters by NOC chairman eng. Mustafa Sanalla, and Dr Khalifa Rajab, chairman of the Zalaf management committee. Schlumberger was represented by Mr Khaled Al Mogharbel, executive vice president for operations, Mr Zied Ben Hamad, vice president and general manager for North Africa, and Mr Reda el- Kabir, general manager for Libya.
