2.13 Putin & government’s popularity
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s personal approval ticked up slightly in February to 69% from 68% a month earlier, following his state of the nation speech on January 15 where he completely shook the government up and appointed the new Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
But the most noticeable change was the approval of the government also went up from 44% where it has been for the last six months to 50%, its highest level since the summer of 2017. Although it is too early to see any difference from the change in government, clearly the population are happy to see the old ineffective government of Medvedev leave.
Mishustin enters the polls with a 48% approval rating and 37% disapproval, the reverse of his previous rankings where 38% approved of him but 61% disapproved.
The other notable result is the regional governors retain their high approval rating, close to Putin’s own rating, of 65%, although that ticked down
