Kyiv startup Restream has attracted $50mn in Series A financing from US investment firms Sapphire Ventures and Insight Partners​ to accelerate its video streaming business. “Today, live streaming is more important than ever - this pandemic has uprooted every type of in-person event—concerts, conferences, classes,” says Alex Khuda, co-founder & CEO of Restream. “Today, our community of over 2mn creators broadcasts over 8mn monthly live streams to over 750mn monthly viewers around the world.”
Reface, a separate Kyiv startup, recently became the most popular American app downloaded on iOS, the operating system for Apple mobile devices. ​The app allows users to use a selfie photo to place their face in a video with stars. On Aug. 26, Reface became the most popular app in the entertainment category in the US and 17 other countries, ahead of TikTok and Netflix. Then, on Aug. 31, it become the most popular app in America overall. “A startup from Ukraine has never been # 1 in the US,” Roman Mogilny, CEO of Reface, tells Interfax-Ukraine. “It's cool to understand that the application has gone viral and popular not only in America, but also in more than 100 countries around the world.”

       Cabinet considers merger of Centrenergo with DTEK-managed state mine.​ ​Ukraine’s PM Denys Shmyhal ordered on Sept. 2 to create a commission that will study the feasibility of uniting state-controlled power generation company Centrenergo (CEEN UK) with state-controlled coal mines, including the mines that are leased to private companies, according to a Interfax-Ukraine report. The commission has to complete its study in one month. Among the possible candidates for a merger with Centrenergo is Dobropilliavuhillia, a mining asset that is currently leased by DTEK Energy, Interfax-Ukraine reported. A day before, DTEK-Dobropilliavuhillia expressed its readiness to deepen cooperation with Centrenergo, stating that it can supply up to 4 mmt of coal to the company.
The district court of Amsterdam has ordered the payment of around $45.1mn and the enactment of interim measures in respect of certain assets of​ ​DTEK​ Energy BV under a claim of Russia's Sberbank​, Interfax Ukraine reported on September 21. DTEK Energy said that these actions have no impact on the company's day-to-day operations of coal mining and electricity generation; the company is in dialogue with creditors over terms of the long-term loan restructuring. DTEK Energy and Russia's Obukhovskaya mine office is in dialogue with creditors on terms of the long-term loan restructuring, DTEK said in a press release on September 21.
