Russian anti-virus software company Kaspersky Lab relocating to Switzerland
Russian anti-virus software company Kaspersky Lab will move its data and major processing centre out of Russia to Switzerland by year-end in a bid to win back customers’ trust, the company said on May 15.
Kaspersky Lab has been accused of both knowingly and unwittingly helping the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) spy on foreigners.
The move will see most of the company’s customer data storage and processing activities relocated to Zurich, with an independent third party employed to supervise the process and ensure “full transparency”. Operations concerning threat detection and software assembly will also be relocated, New Economy reports.
Kaspersky also plans to open a ‘transparency centre’ in which stakeholders can examine the source code of the firm’s products, as well as its software updates.
The Czech high-tech market has seen a new acquisition. Prusa Research, one of the most prominent companies in the field of 3D printers, has bought its counterpart Futur3D, Czech business daily E15 reported on May 11.
None of the parties commented on the price, but the acquisition of 100% of the company will enable Prusa Research's continued future expansion and diversification.
Futur3D is developing different types of printers than Prusa Research – DLP 3D printers, which are more expensive and using polymers rather than plastics and can be used in everything from jewellery, to health services and the foundry industry.
“When we started years ago, our printers were also expensive and very complicated. But now we can deliver them to tens of thousands of users also for personal use. We want to bring this revolution into DLP 3D printers,” founder Josef Prusa said, E15 reported.
The average monthly mobile internet consumption exceeded 1.4GB per user last year, nearly double compared to 2016, the head of the Romania telecom market regulator ANCOM said on May 15.
The rise comes on the back of increased use of 4G networks. In addi- tion, there was a significant increase in voice and data roaming con- sumption, with internet traffic rising sixfold and voice calls increasing three times, as the "roam like at home" rules came into force.
