TAQA Arabia, MAN Energy to pioneer green hydrogen in Egypt
 GLOBAL
AS Egypt aims to push forward the production of the renewables MAN Energy and TAQA Power signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to begin a pilot project that will produce green hydrogen for use as a fuel by tourist buses, MAN said in a statement.
The MoU allows MAN Energy to provide technical information to TAQA Power to use electrolysis to produce hydrogen, with the pilot due to run until autumn 2022.
The deal comes as Egypt aims to create an integrated strategy for the production of green hydrogen in light of the growing international interest in the alternative fuel. The aim is to empower Egypt to generate and use hydrogen through renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.
Ghassan Saab, Head of MAN Energy Solu- tions’ energy business in the region, said: “This is an exciting venture with a valuable partner in a country that has recognised what an incredi- bly important role green hydrogen will play on the path to a climate-neutral, global economy. It is also a great opportunity for MAN Energy Solutions to display its expertise in all processing steps of the hydrogen economy.”
In June 2021 MAN Energy Solutions bought German-based electrolyser manufacturer H-TEC SYSTEMS.
The deal allows MAN to scale up its
operations across the hydrogen value-chain. H-TEC SYSTEMS intends to develop the large- scale industrialisation of electrolysis, pushing green hydrogen towards the mass market and contributing to decarbonisation.
H-TEC SYSTEMS manufactures stacks and megawatt electrolysers based on the poly- mer-electrolyte membrane process (PEM) to cover industry and energy-refiner demands for hydrogen. Its electrolysers already make effective sector-coupling possible today.
Samy AbdelKader – TAQA Power’s Manag- ing Director added: “We are very happy to join forces with MAN Energy Solutions for such a great endeavour in alignment with the Egyp- tian Government’s plan aiming to generate and increase the use of green hydrogen.”
TAQA Power is Egypt’s largest private-sec- tor energy-distribution Group and develops and operates energy-distribution infrastructure including gas transmission & distribution net- works, EPC works, power-generation plants and distribution networks for the oil & gas, residen- tial, commercial and tourism sectors in Egypt.
It also markets petroleum and lubricants, and develops and operates water-treatment stations. It is now focusing on significantly increasing green hydrogen production in order to expand
its remit within the field of clean energy.™
