BC Ferries awards contract
for additional Salish class
vessel
BC Ferries continues to roll out its Clean Futures Plan and has awarded Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. of Gdansk, Poland a contract to build an additional lique ed natural gas (LNG)-fuelled vessel scheduled to go into service in the Southern Gulf Islands in 2022.  is vessel will be identical to the three Salish Class vessels built by Remontowa for BC Ferries in 2016. “Our Clean Futures Plan is our path to replace diesel fuels with cleaner energy options.
While this cannot be achieved in a single step, we are continually seeking energy sources that o er a cleaner, lower carbon- intensity option to displace non-renewable diesel,” said Captain Jamie Marshall, BC Ferries’ vice president, business development and innovation. “In our move towards a sustainable future, adopting LNG is one way to reduce our impact on the environment today.  is new vessel will be our sixth ship fuelled by natural gas.”
 e agreement with Remontowa is a design-build,  xed-priced contract that provides BC Ferries with substantial guarantees related to delivery dates, performance criteria, cost certainty and quality construction.  e total project budget, which includes  nancing and project management costs, is approximately CAD92.3mn.
 e 107-metre Salish Class vessel will have the capacity to carry at least 138 vehicles and up to 600 passengers and crew. It will allow for the retirement of the Mayne Queen, a diesel-fuelled vessel.  e ship will be powered by three Wartsila engines and electrically propelled by Schottel thrusters at each end, driven by an e cient gas-electric power plant. Onboard amenities include a Coastal Café, Passages retail store, children’s play area and a passenger lounge.
 e ship will have a number of key features that support BC Ferries’ goal to be e cient and environmentally responsible throughout its system.

Lawsuit against Tellurian dismissed
Tellurian announced today that Cheniere Energy has permanently dismissed all claims against Tellurian, chairman Charif Souki and vice chairman Martin Houston (61st District Court of Harris County, Texas, Cause No. 2017-49685).
Tellurian Chairman Charif Souki said, “Although this frivolous lawsuit was clearly an attempt to disrupt the hard work and success we are having at Tellurian, it never distracted us from our focus on building Tellurian’s global natural gas business, beginning with Dri wood LNG.”
Dri wood LNG is a proposed ~27.6 mtpa liquefaction export facility and associated infrastructure that will be located near Lake Charles, Louisiana on the U.S. Gulf Coast.  e proposed facility is situated on ~1,000 acres
of land with deep water access, and ample pipeline infrastructure.
 e project is backed by a lump sum
turn key engineering and procurement contract with Bechtel that guarantees cost, performance and schedule. Bechtel has progressed the engineering to over 28% complete, all construction permits have
been secured, and the project is shovel ready. Work is expected to begin this year, with  rst liquefaction in 2023.

Qatargas delivers
commissioning LNG cargo
to India’s Mundra terminal
Qatargas Operating has supplied a
commissioning lique ed natural gas (LNG) cargo for India’s newest LNG receiving terminal, Mundra, located on the west coast of India.  e cargo was loaded in Ras La an on 17 January 2020 on the Q-Flex LNG vessel, Murwab, with an overall cargo carrying capacity of 216,000 cubic metres. It arrived at Mundra terminal on January 22, 2020.
Mundra is the second LNG terminal
that Qatargas helped commission in India within the past year. It followed an earlier commissioning cargo which was delivered by the company to the Ennore LNG receiving terminal, near the southern Indian city of Chennai, in February 2019.
 e Mundra terminal is located in Adani Ports and Special Economic zone in the
Kutch district of the western Indian state of Gujarat.  e terminal’s nominal capacity is 5mn tonnes of LNG per annum (mtpa), and
it can receive vessels with a capacity between 75,000 cubic metres and 260,000 cubic metres.  e terminal comprises of two storage tanks – each with an overall capacity of 160,000 cubic metres.
Qatargas has established a strong partnership with India since July 1999 when
it started supplying LNG to Petronet. Since then it has delivered over 2000 cargoes under its various long-term sales and purchase agreements as well as supplying signi cant volumes into the short term and spot markets.
India is a key market for Qatargas given its geographical proximity and growth potential. Upcoming developments such as new terminals and other gas related infrastructure will increase India’s capacity to import LNG from 30 mtpa to 44 mtpa – a 46% increase as India continues to make strides in achieving its ambitious target of 15% gas in the energy mix.

NYK to Build Second LNG- fuelled PCTC
NYK has concluded a contract with Shin Kurushima Dockyard to build a second LNG-fuelled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC). With this new vessel, NYK will
be able to provide more customers with a low-carbon transportation mode, and the company will continue its e orts to reduce its environmental load and contribute to the realisation of a sustainable society.
NYK aims to integrate ESG principles into management strategies by making e orts to reduce CO2 emissions per voyage through full use of the company’s technological capabilities, such as the development
of energy-saving technologies and the
