Iran, Russia ‘to convene joint military commission’
Aerospace Force.
The sanctions also target two companies, namely Kimia Part Sivan Co and Oje Parvaz Mado Nafar Co. The Treasury said the companies procured components for the drone programme and provided other assistance.
The sanctions block access to property subject to US jurisdiction of the persons designated. They also mean that US persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with the designated persons or their blocked property.
Iran and Russia will reportedly convene a “joint military commission” in Tehran within the next three months, official news agency IRNA has reported.
The commission would discuss defence and security cooperation, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran, Mohammad Bagheri, was cited as saying. Bagheri was in Moscow for meetings with Russian counterpart Valery Gerasimov. He was further quoted as saying that the planned commission would determine areas suitable for military training cooperation.
In further reported comments, Bagheri said that Tehran and Moscow were in talks about Iran procuring training jets and combat helicopters from Russia when US sanctions on Iran’s economy are eased.

Iran completes South Pars’ annual maintenance
State-owned Pars Oil and Gas Co. (POGC) announced this week that it has completed the overhaul of all 36 platforms across the 24 phases of the offshore South Pars gas field.
The company’s deputy director for repair operations, Mehdi Tayebi, said that the maintenance work had been completed in 136 days with more than 100,000 hours of work carried out without any accident and the average time spent repairing each platform had been reduced from nine days last year to less than eight and a half.
“By reducing the average number of days of major repairs to 8.3 days, on average each platform will produce about 16.5mn cubic metres per day of gas and 11,000 barrels per day of gas condensate more than the previous year.” Iran carries out South Pars overhaul work during the first half of the Iranian calendar year owing to the reduction in gas demand between March and October, and to ensure stable production during the winter months. Maintenance work mainly covers inspection, calibration of safety valves, repairs of control systems and other repairs and replacements.
In late August, POGC said it was preparing to kick of a drilling campaign to appraise possible new reserves in the northern area of South Pars. In a statement on its website, the head of the company’s oil and gas engineering department Ali Akbar Majed said that POGC had carried out preparatory work for the drilling of a new appraisal well by the end of September as it seeks to maintain production from the asset which comprises part of the world’s largest gas deposit.
The news follows the inauguration in July of the remaining offshore projects of the overall South Pars development which includes 37 platforms across the field’s 24 phases to produce 700 mcm per day at present of Iran’s 1bn cubic metre per day total. Tehran is aiming to increase output from South Pars to 1 bcm per day as quickly as possible but requires significant investment to maintain and add to production.
