● Planes
Through September, Ukraine’s air traffic was down 63% y/y, hitting 6.9mn passengers. Traffic at Kyiv Sikorsky was down 70%, to 601,000 passengers. Traffic at Lviv was down 58%, to 703,000.
● Trains
Rail cargo was up 3.5% y/y for July-September, an indicator of a summer recovery from the recession. In August, cargo carried by Ukrzaliznytsia was up 10.3% y/y, reports the centre for Transportation Strategies, drawing on figures from the state railroad. The largest freight carrier in the nation, UZ carried 198mn tons through August of this year.
● Ships
Cargo moving through Ukraine’s sea ports was up 3.7% y/y through September, compared to first nine months of last year. Easing the corona recession, exports were up 5.6%, to 91mn tons. Other directions were: imports down 3.1%, to 18mn tons; transit down 5.5%, to 7.7mn tons; and cabotage, or shipment between two Ukrainian sea ports, was up 31%, to 1.8mn tons. Container traffic was up 8.3%, to 773,000 boxes.
In a healthy sign for Ukraine-controlled Donbas, Mariupol, Donetsk region’s only port, reports that cargo is up by 16.5% for the first nine months of this year, compared to the same January-September period last year, Exports – 84% of handled cargo -- were up 17.4%, to 4.5mn tons. If trends hold up, the port could handle 7.5mn tons this year. That would still be
