GTT to collaborate with DSEC for the supply of the LNG tanks on the PONANT polar exploration vessel under construction in the Norwegian shipyard
GTT will subcontract the LNG tank construction to DSEC on a LNG as fuel project related to the outfitting of LNG tanks on Le Commandant Charcot polar exploration vessel (PONANT) to be built in the Norwegian shipyard VARD.
This contract, finalised on August 28th 2019, unites GTT and DSEC’s capabilities. GTT, as main contractor, will be responsible for the project studies, procurement, supervision, maintenance and related services in order to bring the best expertise to the client, while DSEC will be in charge of the containment system installation and construction.
Moreover, DSEC is already recognised for its ability to support shipyards as a GTT
qualified outfitter licensee.
Le Commandant Charcot is intended
for expeditions of duration from 2 weeks
to 1 month. Thanks to its two tanks of a
total capacity of 4,500 m3, the ship will be capable of making its entire round-trip using LNG. This performance is made possible
by the compactness of GTT’s membrane containment system which optimizes the payload in very restricted spaces, thereby maximising the autonomy of the ship.
Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT commented: “This project sets an important milestone in the development of the LNG as a fuel. GTT is proud to bring its expertise to PONANT and VARD alongside with DSEC’s experience”.

Yamal LNG increased
shipments to the Asian
Pacific markets via NSR
Novatek announced today, that 15 LNG cargoes from the company’s Yamal LNG project were shipped eastbound to the Asian Pacific markets directly via the Northern
Sea Route (NSR) during third quarter 2019. The eastbound shipments represented about 25% of all LNG dispatched from Yamal LNG during the quarter.
Planned 2019 volumes of LNG delivered eastbound to the Asian Pacific markets via the NSR will be increased by more than 4 times compared to last year.
A current fleet of 13 Arc7 ice-class tankers along with lower ice-class designated tankers to transport LNG cargoes support the
Yamal LNG project. The full complement
of 15 Arc7 ice-class tankers are expected to be in operation by end of 2019, which will increase the number of direct LNG deliveries eastbound via the NSR.
“The increase of LNG delivered eastbound via the NSR confirms the commercial priority of the Asia-Pacific region as a strategic direction for future deliveries of NOVATEK’s LNG,” noted Lev Feodosyev, Novatek’s
first deputy chairman of the management board. “Developing further the navigational efficiency via the NSR combined with
the construction of LNG transshipment complexes in Kamchatka and Murmansk will optimise the company’s logistics chain.” NOVATEK, October 01, 2019
