The production of sunflower oil in Ukraine has decreased in September-October 2021 by 13.5% compared to the same period last year. However, according to the results of the 2021/2022 marketing year, production is expected to grow by more than 24%, reported Ukroliyaprom. This happened due to the restraint of the sale of sunflower seeds by agricultural producers in anticipation of the growth of the prices for the given raw materials.
Milk production in Ukraine decreased by 6%. The gross milk yield for 10 months of the current year amounted to 7.53 mln tons, which is 6% less than for the same period last year, announced the Association of Milk Producers. This drop is due to a significant drop in production in households and added that the ratio of industrial and milk from the population for the period was 30.6% to 69.4%.
Exports of Ukrainian agricultural products increased by almost 17% in the first nine months of 2021. As a result, the exports of agro-food products amounted to $18.2bn. This amount is $2.6bn or nearly 17% higher than the corresponding figure for nine months of 2020, announced by the Institute of Agrarian Economics. The recent tripling of natural gas prices has pushed Ukrainian farmers to delay harvesting, waiting for their fields to dry out,Reuters reports. “Every 1% of natural grain drying means savings of $4-$6 a ton,” one Ukrainian trader says, noting that gas-fueled drying in silos is more expensive. As of one week ago, Ukraine had threshed about 44% of its corn area, amounting to 15.6 million tons. This compares to 70% on the same date last year. With prices rising for nitrogen fertilizers, the corn sowing area could be cut by 10% to 15% next year, one trader says. This year, Ukraine is expected to harvest a record corn crop of more than 37 million tons. Exports are to reach 31-32 million tons.
