4.5.1 Labour market, unemployment dynamics
    Broad unemployment in Turkey reached 9.7mn people (27.2%) in May, according to the labour union DISK.
TUIK’s figure stood at 4.24mn (13.2%).
The broad unemployment rate for women was 34%, while youth unemployment stood at 42%.
The number of people seen in employment, but not on the job during the coronavirus pandemic is not included in the TUIK data. Similarly, the number of people not looking for a job, but ready to work and the number of people who have lost all hope of finding a job are not included in the figures.
Services sector remains Turkey’s largest employer with 38% share in overall employment in 2020. Industry accounted for 29%.
43% of the enterprises in Turkey were in the services sector, while the industry sector accounted for a little over 34%.
Some 57% of enterprises in manufacturing were engaged in low-tech activities.
