4.5.3 Retail sector dynamics
Retail trade turnover of food products, beverages and tobacco in Russia reached its highest point in December 2020 at nearly RUB1.75 trillion. As of March 2021, retail trade turnover of these products exceeded RUB1.45 trillion.
Russia's retail trade fell 3.4% from a year earlier in March of 2021,
following an upwardly revised 1.5% drop in the previous month and more than the expected 1.3% decrease.
It was the twelfth consecutive month of declines in retail activity amid the pandemic crisis.
