bne:TMT Belarus arrests
alleged leader of global cyber crime network Andromeda
Mail.ru Group's Delivery Club to invest in ‘dark kitchens’ in Moscow
Law enforcement agencies of Belarus, Germany and the US have arrested one of Eastern Europe’s most prolific cyber criminals in a joint operation, Reuters reported on December 5.
Belarusian law enforcement agencies, working with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, said they had arrested a Belarusian citizen on suspicion of selling malicious software, who they described as administrator of the Andromeda network.
Andromeda is made up of a collection of "botnets", or groups of computers that have been infected with viruses to allow hackers to control them remotely without the knowledge of their owners. These networks were in turn leased to other criminals to mount malware or phishing attacks and other online scams.
The food delivery service Delivery Club, owned by Russian tech giant Mail.ru Group, plans to open 15 “dark kitchens” around suburban Moscow over the next year, Kommersant reported on December 4.
The business model is to provide kitchens to partners preparing food solely for delivery, allowing restaurants to save on the invest- ment normally required for front of house. The company is target- ing more upscale restaurants to get away from the regular offering of pizza, burgers and sushi as the punters get bored of junk food.
Managing director Andrey Lukashevich expressed confidence in the approach based on Delivery Club’s experience in the St. Petersburg market, where more than half of food deliveries come from a handful of chains operating a delivery-only business.
The Financial Administration of Slovenia (FURS) has announced it will clamp down on undeclared vacation rental incomes from the beginning of 2018, Slovenian Press Agency (STA) reported.
FURS has decided to put a stop to undeclared leasing of real estate to tourists after the practice skyrocketed with the increasing popularity of platforms like AirBnB and Booking.
Since Slovenia is a tourism oriented country, the contribution from these undeclared incomes could be significant for the state’s budget.
In Ljubljana alone, more than 1,500 apartments were leased through AirBnB in the first half of this year, whereas the number stood at a mere 31 in 2011, according to data obtained from the platform by the newspaper Delo.
