Ukraine mulls agreeing concessions to operate seaports instead of their privatisation
Ukraine's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade is backing a proposal from the infrastructure ministry to agreeing concessions to operate seaports instead of carrying out their privatisation, Maksym Nefyodov, first deputy economy minister, told journalists on August 22.
At the first stage, Kyiv is considering agreeing concessions to operate Olvia stevedoring company, Kherson merchandise port and Chornomorsk maritime merchandise port.
"Most of facilities can be simply privatised. In some cases concessions would be more interesting. In the case with ports it is easier first to show a result with a concessionaire," Interfax news agency quoted Nefyodov as saying. "If the result is good, one can speak about the privatization of other facilities and parts of these facilities."
A much-vaunted railway connection between Iran and Azerbaijan is likely to be finished in six months, according to a report by Iran Labour News Agency on August 23.
The railway which will connect to several Iranian cities from the Astara-Astara border between the two countries is part of the wider North-South rail project linking Iran to Russia and beyond.
According to the latest developments of the Iranian side of the project, the railway is on schedule and should be fully operational by January 2018, Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI) said in
a statement.
Romania has received two offers for the construction of a suspension bridge over the Danube river, Romania’s national road company CNAIR said on August 22. The design and construction works are estimated to cost RON2bn (€436mn), VAT excluded.
This will be the largest contract Romania has attributed for an infrastructure project in the last 27 years. Investors have repeatedly underlined that the lack of modern infrastructure in Romania affects their productivity and exports, while poor infrastructure also keeps investment away.
